Education affects each and every human being, and influences every minute of our lives. I am currently in the field of education to make a difference in the world. The art field is where I belong; I want to open student’s minds to the world around them. I think I can inspire greatness in the form of creativity, individuality, expression and cooperation. I hope that by working my hardest to help students succeed in these fields, they will develop stronger skills of critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, comprehension and general knowledge.
I believe that people learn best when information can be seen and proven in our environment. Personally, in the art field, visual art is an extremely fast growing art form. Images are constantly being forced into our faces today, and becoming a language all their own. Visual culture would be a huge advantage because it can be expanded into so many topics like multiculturalism and perspective that the students need to learn. I am also a strong supporter of teaching contemporary art so students can relate to what they are seeing regularly.
The children of today will be running the world at some point, so they must have the best education they can receive. Students learn more and can comprehend information longer when they are more involved in what they’re learning. Today’s society is composed of many different kinds of different learners. Teachers need to be flexible and adaptive to the particular needs of their learners. Many children with physical and mental disabilities are being main-streamed today, so teachers need to be aware of different aids and methods of teaching to ensure all students are learning. I believe that we should all be lifelong learners, because information is being developed and adapted daily. Advancing technology should be incorporated into class lessons as often as possible. If the resources are available, I believe students should be familiar with their functions and benefits. Technology is very important, however, an art curriculum needs to have a balance of traditional and technological tools, because both are constructive to learning.
Teachers are taught to be intellectual models and mentors for their students. They are exemplary images of how respectable, responsible adults appear. I believe a teacher’s primary role is to facilitate learning and ensure that students comprehend the correct context. Teachers guide students through the learning process and encourage them think critically, by questioning and participating in class. I believe excellent teachers inspire greatness in learners and open their eyes to new concepts and ideas.
The students themselves play an enormous role in their own education. They must work hard and challenge themselves constantly to get ahead. In order to form their own opinions and stance on controversial issues, students need to search independently. This way they will personal find truth that fits in perspective with what they believe and value. Students learn more when working cooperatively with their peers and by participating in class discussion. Students are responsible for sorting through the information presented to them, searching for their own purpose, and absorbing the very most important features. In the end, these improved skills will allow students to intelligently choose a stance on issues like freedom, laws, and war.
Education should prepare people for real life situations, for opportunities and for solving real issues. Schools should instill discipline, self-control, and hard-work. Teachers are the instrument through which students will learn how to think instead of what to think. They are to help students determine their own conclusions about underlying issues, and to think critically. I believe that a solid education will help students explore life, reflect on their experiences and knowledge, and gain a creative outlook on life. Hopefully this process of education will help students be successful in society and life.
